Navy News This Week piece. On Sept. 30th 1989, off the Aleutian Islands in high seas, the
USS Safeguard made an emergency assist and helped retrieve the USS Ouellet's stuck sonar
array when the USS Ouellet's (FF-1077) winch failed to bring it up. Both ships were
homeported in Pearl Harbor and were participating in PacEx '89.
