Operation Husky 2013 on CTV

The mission of Operation Husky 2013 is to honour those Canadian soldiers who fought and those who fell during the Sicilian Campaign over the months of July and August in 1943. To accomplish this, the organizers will conduct a commemorative event on July 30th in the main Piazza at Agira and a symbolic march by a small group of Canadians along the original paths taken by the 1st Canadian Division. Afin d'honorer la mémoire des soldats qui ont combattu et de ceux tombés à la bataille de Sicile pendant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, un petit groupe de citoyens canadiens organise une marche de 28 jours retraçant l'itinéraire emprunté par la 1re Division canadienne au cours de l'été 1943. Cette marche baptisée "Opération Husky 2013" commencera sur les plages de Pachino le 10 juillet 2013, s'arrêtera le 30 Juillet dans la grande place à Agira pour un évènement commémoratif, et prendra fin le 7 août au milieu des orangeraies. My Uncle is buried in Agira, Sicily. A Sargeant in the Saskatoon Light Infantry, I know little about him, other than he succumbed to shrapnel wounds on July 20, 1943. My guess is that he was on way to Mt. Etna, which the Canadians helped to overtake on July 28th.
