What you are viewing is an extreme water flow in the Little Colorado River in the first week of August 2010. The water flow is about 1800 cubic feet per second in this video. The water flow was even greater 1 week earlier. This is due to a large amount of rainfall in Eastern Arizona. This year has been a great year to watch the fall. The trick to seeing a great water fall is to watch the Little Colorado River flood gage just upstream from the river in Winslow Arizona. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/az/nwis/uv/?site_no=09400350&PARAmeter_cd=00065...
This site is the USGS time and water data. You are looking for USGS 09400350 LITTLE COLORADO RIVER NEAR WINSLOW, AZ on there site. If the flow is within 800CFS and above you will be in for a great picture at the fall
The drive to the fall is about 10 miles off the main highway to Leupp Arizona This is a wide washboard bladed road. If you let some of the air out of your tires this will minimiize some of the viabration due to the washboarding The fall is on the Navajo reservation. The last half mile of the drive is accross an ancient lava flow. Be careful here. The rocks will cut your tires. You can make the drive in a 2 wheel dirve vehicle as long as it is not raining. Always carry extra water and provisions anytime you leave the paved road. Sunsrise and Sunset are the best times . Remember leave no tracks on your visit and Enjoy the this great natural wonder.
