Boeing 747 Struck by lightning just after liftoff out of Newark
This is why the CRN wires are so critical. This 47 was well grounded and
passed the electrical discharge efficiently through the a/c because
everything worked as it should. This will be even more critical on the
787 being all composite. At 600 ft AGL (Above Ground Level) and still in its climb the worst thing
would be to have a power outage in a 747. The passengers were probably
very thankful that the workers installed the wires correctly. If the wires had
failed in their duty, then the pilot would have approximately 3-5 seconds
to decide what how he was going to ditch it with 300+ people on it.
A Boeing 747 Struck by lightning just after liftoff out of Newark,
departed to the NE and just as the aircraft went into the clouds at 600
feet, the covers on the overhead lights came flying off and bounced
around the cockpit.
When we landed in Dayton , the only exterior damage was the lens on the
port wing navlight was missing and static wicks on the wing were missing.
After the cleaning crew sprayed the cockpit we changed our underwear,
then proceeded to St. Louis!
This one is interesting in that someone on the ground got it on the
attached cell phone video......

That's not Newark. There's no pine trees in EWR.

This video is as old as 2000. Why it gets reposted as out of EWR I can't fathom.
ANA is visible on the tail, it is All Nippon Airways departing Osaka. They returened to Osaka, made an uneventful landing and there were no injuries.
