  • Julie Andrews ORIGINATED the role of Eliza, the role was written for HER....she was Broadway's best at this time (Camelot, The Sound of Music, etc) Marni Nixon did a terrific job of dubbing Audrey as well. Audrey's natural voice was only an actress' voice - not a singers voice. Her best singing is "Moon River" in Breakfast at Tiffany's

  • Audrey was beautiful inside as well as out. Don't diss her please. She did good work for unicef.

  • What the hell does work for unicef and 'beautiful' character have to do with her singing ability . She wasn't right for the cockney role. Celeb worship is insane. Stop taking so personally.

  • Julie Andrews was/is incredible :) Great rendition of this song!

  • I love this song! Thanks for posting. I love Audrey Hepburn. This is her best role. But I prefer her/Marni Nixon's singing. I love Julie Andrew's voice, though. I could listen to it for years.

  • Technically, Audrey Hepburn did most of the singing of this number in the finished film of MY FAIR LADY.

MARNI NIXON came in on the Bridge portion of the song to help Audrey Hepburn out.

If you listen to the original soundtrack CD of the movie, you will notice quite clearly that on this one song, Audrey herself did most of the singing herself.

  • @AmericanEvita She did not originate the role, nor was the role written for her. She was however the one cast for the role in the 1956 Broadway musical.

  • @emmadilemmasings no she was 21. she was born in 35 and it was premiered in 56.

  • @purpleoliveoil Which is weird, because Julie is 6 years younger! She was 19 when she played Eliza.

  • @chicago2 Yeah, I read about that in Julie's book. She said he would yell at her for an hour about how she was screwing the role up, she would run off to her dressing room and cry for ten minutes, and then she'd come back and it would start over. But that is INTEGRITY. I mean, wasn't she 19?

  • @JenaJinxed In her defense, Julie had a perfect cockney accent, but she was told not to use it for the musical because it was too good and the New Yorkers couldn't understand.
