One can see why Dehlin likes Fawn Brodie, inasmuch as he practices her method of feigning sympathy for his subject--giving himself an aura of objectivity--at the same time he presents it in the worst possible light. I have my own issues with church membership, especially the chasm between being LDS in theory and in practice. However, per WFB, I'd sooner see the church led by the 400-or-so new missionaries who will report in the Provo MTC next week than by the "Mormon intellectual" community.

If the LDS church knew what this guy was doing he would probably not be a member by now.

Whether or not your a fan of JS matters not. What matters is that millions of people find his story inspiring. The problem is as John wonderfully describes at about 23 mins into this, is that far too many, at the encouragment of the LDS church actually idolize the man and make him to be either a perfect man or a perfect fraud. The truth generally lies somewhere in the middle. By lifting any man to the clouds we put them in a place where Gods often fall from. Great presentation John as always!

@Antoni0V I agree!

Maybe you'll be a hero someday John P. Dehlin (for bringing to light the truth of history in a far-reaching way). Have they excommunicated you yet?

not even you are that one dimensional
Great video, I really enjoyed watching it. I believe the church isn't completely honest about its history.
