EDIT: It's been six months since I uploaded this video and now I'm back in the UK and have had some professional highlights done. I have uploaded a new video in case it's useful/reassuring to anyone that their hair won't fall out or go a funny colour once redyed in the future : )
http://youtu.be/pXx91MSRyAs

After watching every single video on YouTube about dying hair from red to blonde (and some black or brown to blonde) I think it's only fair to share my own experience/reassurance in case anyone wants to do a similar thing.

Before dying my hair red it had been highlighted blonde at the hairdressers for about 6 years. I didn't realise how hard it would be to remove the red until it was too late. Three different hair dresser consultations estimated the procedure to cost at least $200 Canadian depending on how many bleaches I needed. So after a lot of research I decided to risk it and try to strip my hair myself. And I am so glad I did - even after the scares from each hair dresser telling me my hair would break off. Just don't overdo it and remember to do a strand test at each stage!

Products used:
Joico K-PAK reconstructor ($10)
Colour Oops extra conditioning ($16)
L'Oreal Blondissma ($13)
Garnier Nutrisse Light Ash Blonde ($7)
Nice n Easy Medium Ash Blonde ($12)

Song: Metric - Twilight Galaxy

Note: I am not a professional I just thought I would share my experience in case someone finds it useful

  • Does the color oops really work? My hair is like the same color yours was when it faded. I wanna get it back to a dirty blonde color. Helpppp?(:

  • @DianaLouise1126 Hi! Well I'd say it worked for me. It's not as good of an effect as you might hope but it's a good stepping stone to the next stages of lightening. I don't think you'd have much luck bleaching it without removing the red pigments. Just remember to rinse and rinse and rinse to make sure you get as much out as possible! Maybe google some other videos with colour oops for reassurance. Good luck!!

  • What is the song name?

  • @Flozzabell Song: Metric - Twilight Galaxy thanks for watching : )

  • sorry but your hair looked kinda gay..

  • @iamakookie I ended up having to save up to have it fixed . They had to use different strength developers on different areas to get it all the same shade again. That pink would not go away lol.

  • @crzyATEcupcake Ah yes I remember it says it doesn't work on some colours. GAH. What did you end up doing?

  • @PeaceLoveChocolat100 Hey there, thanks for the compliment : ) I'm not sure what the colour would turn out like on dark brown hair, I think there are bleaches that specify that they're for dark hair- maybe look for those. Also try looking at some videos bleaching dark hair for tips and reassurance! Hope you get what you want, your idea sounds good : )

  • My hair is a dark brown and i want to dye my bottom layers violet/purple :) would you reccommend using the l'oreal in dark hair? ive hear good things about it just looking for another opinion as your hair is georgous :)

  • @26daynian Not sure how that would come out.... maybe try to let the colour fade out a bit first? Good luck!
