Nope, it was the Zuni rocket that was accidentally fired due to an electrical surge from a F-4 sitting across the deck that ripped through McCain's A-4 that did it. Burning bits of rocket propellant ignited the fuel spilling from the ruptured fuel tank of his A-4 that started the fire. Technically McCain was ordered to remove the bombs by his CO...by dropping them on targets in North Vietnam.

at any rate....the facts remain...he did not help in the clean up, fire and was the first to leave from the ship.....regardless of whom started or how.

and was protected by his father then and in the pow camp.

I respect your service and only ask whether or not it is true that McCain 'wet starting' his plane caused the fire and that he was transferred the next day. Thank you for your service.

If McCain where any other person (not having fathers influnce) he would have been kicked out of the Navy long ago, for crashing the first two planes.

this is what I heard happened - McCain crashed 5 jets, and was responsible for the Forrestal fire. Something made the plane behind McCain fired a rocket, which hit McCain's external center fuel tank, and caused a fire. McCain panicked, and dropped two bombs into the fire
