About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

How does Samasource or any other Microwork website ensure continued employment at a certain rate for the workers? I guess in the traditional outsourcing sense are the microworkers hired as permanent employees and assigned projects as they come in or project based?

Leila - you are an incredible inspiration! Our engineers attended an event at eventbrite last night in San Francisco and proposed we consider your service. After watching this video, it's incredibly motivating to work with companies that have a deep rooted foundation of social change. How you articulate your vision and your own personal journey is the clear differentiator to any other business in your space that is built on pure 'business logic'.

Hi there, thanks for commenting! Samasource is quite different from AMT in that we select workers from poor backgrounds and offer training and support so they succeed in earning a living wage. AMT has few workers outside the US and India because of their payment systems, and very few people earn a primary income from AMT work. That said, it's a great platform.

I'm not sure there is a big difference. Her business model sounds like a pool of workers are on staff, ready to take on micro work -- I could be wrong though. The Turk is a place for people with micro work jobs to post their jobs, then anyone can do those micro work jobs and get paid. If there is a difference between the two, it is in the pool of workers, in this TEDxtalk case: a set staff; in the case of the Turk: anyone with a computer.

This is a good idea, I'm surprised she didn't mention Amazon's Mechanical Turk, which allows anyone to buy or sell microwork.
