How true! His role in Clint Eastwood's "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is much too brief. But the late great Mr Chandler had a way of imprinting his image onto the viewer's psyche with his unique looks & acting style. May this classy gentleman rest in peace. And thanks so much for your comment! CHEERS! :-)

You met the late great John Davis Chandler? Heavens to Murgatroid, am so very jealous! I am not surprised to hear he was a nice chap...usually the screen's slimiest villians are friendly fellas in real life (Boris Karloff, Robert Ryan, Vincent Price, etc). Sounds like he was also very spiritually inclined. The heart & soul of a poet! Oh how I miss him. THANK YOU for your comment! It's MADE my day & my week!

I second that emotion! I feel that way about all of the late great Mr Chandler's screen & TV appearances. Very underated & very underused by the industry. THANKS for your post!

I faintly recall seeing it on network TV way back in the late 60's when I was a teen. As I recall Alan Deloine wants to go straight but his gangster brother Jack Palance won't let him. Van Heflin is a cop obsessed with arresting him. And didn't John Chandler's villaneous character have bleached blonde hair & sunglasses? That's all I can recall...but John's characters were always burned into my brain, he has such charisma. THANKS for your remarks!

Loved reading your comment! Well put & well said. His performance in "The Young Savages" is truly unforgettable...a punk to end all punks! Like Richard Widmark, Frank Gorshin & Kirk Douglas, he was truly unique & had a very charismatic screen presence! THANKS for your heartfelt words! :-)

I read that too. It's very sad that he (one of the most effective character actors ever) felt forgotten towards the end of his life. I was a huge fan of his for so many years. I mailed him a fan letter once to an address I saw at imdb.com but it came back undeliverable. I wish I could have met him. I read "Autobiography of a Yogi" many years ago & would love to have discussed it with him...along with his career. THANKS for your informative & illuminating post!

I made a mistake! John Chandler joined the Self-Realization Fellowship. The Divine Life Society is the correct name of another group started by a different yogi. Birds are yogis because they can levitate.

John Davis Chandler was a life long devotee of Paramahamsa Yogananda. He was
a bhakti yogi. He joined The Divine Life Fellowship after reading The Autobiography of a Yogi. I tried to track him down through an agency listed at the John Chandler discussion group at IMDb, through SAG and that other union to let him know we'd started a "JD" fan club in Seattle. I couldn't get through. I read that he felt forgotten and died alone surrounded by uncashed residual checks.

thx for mentioning him-hardly a word was mentioned about him in the hollywood circles--i only found out just recently in 2011 after a year-you never forgot his appearances-he was between a look alike of richard widmark and frank gorshin-with a dash of kirk douglas-the best movie he did was one called -the young savages 61-and as you say-numerous appearances on top shows and movies-the fans from all over the world acknowledge his movies and tv stuff and his passing-thx again for the vid-simon

One of my all-time favourite films featuring Mr. Chandler was Ralph Nelson's "Once A Thief", released in 1965.
Mr. Chandler played James Arthur Sargatanas A.K.A. "The Ghost" --one of the most unnerving villains in film history.
I love being a children. haha He was in the movie Trancers 2, which I had no idea even existed. You should watch to see how horrible that movie is.
