  • The real point here, I believe, is not the ocassional bit of bad driving but the complete lack of a cycle path. Proper cycle paths, like the ones in the rest of Europe. Not the sorry excuse that the british call a cycle path ie. a white line drawn on the road. If anything, the UK should have advanced ones as it's a cold/wet country (ie. COVERED ones!!). The essence of this stems from a society/goverment that is prioritizes fossil-fuel cars over any other type of personal transport. Saddening!!

  • @sekib2003 In the UK we are decades behind countries like Holland and Denmark when it comes to cycling infrastructure. We hav to start making cycling infrastucture an integral and integrated part of all road design and not just leave it as an occasional afterthought.

In addition to good infrastructure we also need some changes in the law, starting with strict or presumed liability. This in itself would probably help improve the standard of driving.

  • Your final image says give them as much space as you would give a car.... Well that IS how much space you would give a car in a narrow stretch! It's not like he had a massive road to drive into....

  • @agoraki4u The road here is far too narrow to overtake. The lorry driver should have looked at the width of the road realised that it was not safe to overtake and held back until the road widened out again a few yard ahead. I'm pretty certain that if he passed a car this close the car driver would be sounding the horn and shouting at the lorry driver for passing too close. However you look at this the pass was far too close, dangerous and should never have happened in the first place.

  • Does it even have a number plate?

  • @drsquirrel0 I iniially thought the same. It does have a plate it's on the top of the back doors. Unfortunately it's too far ahead to read once it comes into frame.

  • Holy cr@p that's a bad overtake!!! He shouldn't have overtaken there, that was terrible driving. OTOH to be more defensive, you guys ought to have taken the lane there. No blame on you for not doing that, but that would have been best practice there.

  • @2FlatErics Don't you mean "Millenia Behind Countries like Holland and Denmark"? :-) Yes the white line silly culture is sickening and why most of us will always be on the road not on some silly line painted on as some afterthought by an evil council officer for the sakes of his next years bonus.

Yes indeed probably worthwhile google mapping the route before taking it and making a note to self to take the lane in such places. It'll piss off Mr WVM but so what? He can wait 3 seconds!

  • omg.... scary

  • @agoraki4u So you trying to say that the van would be able to pass a car in that part of the road , no way , if the van only left a 2 foot gap , then the car would either be hit , or have to drive 4 foot over the pavement

  • I poo'd a little when I watched that!

    :-o

  • @WheelyGoodFun In a lot of places they still call those vans. In the States they call them cube-trucks (and the bigrig lads will take the mick out of them).

I think in the UK it classes as an LGV?
