Served Cows (English Translation)

On a beautiful summer's day
I was driving along the lower Rhine river.
I can't remember why,
but suddenly I felt this urge!

I wanted to play and sing,
wanted to let my ukulele strings swing
and that's why I stopped my car.

I lined myself up next to a meadow
and started to sing a song out loud.
When I heard cows snuffling behind me,
I realized who had been my audience.

The cows allowed me to sing for them,
they let their tails swing to the beat
and this concert made us all feel mighty good!

And I sing another song for the cow,
who just stands there and listens to me
and then suddenly she joins in and utters
a wonderful Moo!

Now, half a year later,
the cows are no longer there.
The meadow has become fallow land,
and everybody knows what that means:

and I haven't prevented it unfortunately.
