Timothy Dalton, Maryam d'Abo and Jeroen Krabbe in the 18th bond movie
Due to a copyright claim, I cannot use the song "The Living Daylgihts" by A-Ha to open the review, which is pretty silly all things considered, as a review constitutes fair use. Nevertheless, I have replaced that part of the audio with "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" by The John Barry Orchestra

Interesting fact. This is the same guy who does the voices for the MacDonald's training videos. I'd like to hear his review of the "hotmopping" video.

3:46 Those are positively no Czechoslovak uniforms (watch?v=MlLolxORlOg&feature=related) and the Czechoslovakian army had never been using the AK - 47 (AKM).

I never understood why Timothy Dalton was so heavily criticised and disliked at the time. I think he was a good actor and a breath of fresh air after Roger Moore's uncomforably silky and -shall I say?-unmanly character.

I think it has to be partly due to by 1987, a lot of people had grown up on the roger moore bond, and this was something radically different from what they were used to. I started with this film, so i love it.

...come to know Bond as what it started as a serious spy film free of the hammed up gadgets and glib humour that have since been a legacy of the franchaise it is rarely able to shake even now with people criticising how they think the film should be based on the Moore excesses rather than how it was in the book they clearly don't know. I also liked the 80s European feel of this one. I prefer Bond to be more European set than American personally. Always thought he'd be better as MI5 than 6.

This is one of my fave Bonds too, I'm part of the seemingly silent minority who do think if you're going to talk about who played thei character the way he should be played then Timothy Dalton did it best, years before Craig hit the scene and treated it serious as he was Shakespearean actor who even when playing a pop cultural icon came to the role with real commitment to his job. Its a shame he never took the role on in 1969 as we wouldve been spared the Moore years and people would've...

I love this movie, it's a standard Spy film but yet it's exciting and well made. I loved everything in it and Dalton/D'Abo were great.

The reviewer made an error here. The pre-credit sequence was definitely connected to the rest of the movie. What you mentioned was linked throughout the movie.

It's too bad things with Dalton's contract went to shit. From what I hear, all the legal rambling that took place over the making of The Property of a Lady among so many other things in the six years between 1989 and 1995 really grated at the man and he quit partially because he said enough was enough for him. As much as I absolutely love Brosnan's GoldenEye, I would not have minded a third Dalton movie. I rewatched License to Kill recently, and like you said, it's still pretty damn good.
