Orange Goblin's 'A Eulogy for the Damned' will be out Valentine's Day 2012. Make sure you buy it!

The song is erected on some nasty riffing and fuzzed out guitars that sound as though they were recorded on refurbished equipment. If you took elements of Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Mastodon, threw them in a cauldron, stirred the mixture, set fire it on fire and then consumed it, that'd be like a taste of what Orange Goblin have to offer on the new album. It was the first song written for 'A Eulogy of the Damned' and from the moment that guitarist Joe Hoare devised the main riff back in 2008, the band knew it was meant to be the album opener.

"We all knew that this would be the lead song on the album as soon as we wrote it," vocalist/guitarist Ben Ward told Noisecreep. "It felt kind of special and it set the tempo and feel for the whole record. It's one that we all had a lot of input on, so it's a real band effort and it definitely wasn't rushed; the ending must've been changed half a dozen times or so until we were all satisfied! It's a very typical Orange Goblin song and I'm confident that it's going to be a live favorite for many years to come. We've actually played it at the last few shows and despite no one knowing it, it got a great response.

The song explores Ward's self-admitted "fascination" with the works of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. "The theme of the track centers around the rising of Cthulhu from the deep and the ultimate destruction of Earth and mankind," Ward said. "It was fun for me to use my imagination and be able to write about the Elder gods and the end of the world. I think it'll make a great heavy metal video! We actually have a shoot for the video to this song this coming Sunday and I'm really excited about how it's gonna turn out."

The band actually considered calling the album, due out in February, 'Red Tide Rising.' Ward explained, "It's pretty self-explanatory, really, with the idea of the oceans turning to blood and the beasts taking over for the dawn of a new dark age! We are all very proud of this track and really honored to preview it with Noisecreep. With our annual Christmas show looming on Saturday, now seems like the perfect time to unleash this beast on the world!"
