Calva Bridge workington 22.11.09 10.30am

this is Calva bridge in workington about 1/2 a mile upstream of the collapsed northside bridge.
you can see from the video theres a hump in the middle of the bridge which is not usually there.
also the railings of the bridge and lamp posts have visibly 'bent' by the force of the bridge twisting.

Nice to see Gordon Brown pledge £1 Million in aid to the region. However, the day before he gave Pakistan £34 Million to rebuild business and agriculture. Good on ya Gord.

Yeah, we're always there if there's a worldwide disaster, so where's the help and support for our own? Mr Brown, charity begins at HOME and the people of Cockermouth deserve more than the insultingly paltry, smack in the face £1m you and your govt pledged! How are they even gonna begin to rebuild their shattered lives? Get your finger out, Mr Brown and do right by them, NOW!

On Thursday afternoon, 07 Jan 10 at 13:40, I ran over this bridge thanks to a small gap in the barriers coming from the Northside direction, whilst the bridge wall got me over onto the Workington side, as the barriers there were completley over the road and pavement.

Undettered, this 1841 built structure is safe enough to reopen for pedestrians.

Footprints in the snow revealed up to two other people walked across it earlier that day.

It's a grade 2 structure and cannot be demolised.

BBC weather also on about gusts overt night of maybe 70 mph and said could not rule out a mini tornado as well.

apologies for my original post saying this video was a waste of time. I was looking for videos of collapsed bridges at the time.

Born in Workington and still have family there. Will always be my home despite moving out as a kid.
