On January 20, 2009, the museum hosted tribal leaders from around the country to mark the historic inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
Standing on the street near the museum one could see through the trees to the podium. There were also large TV screens nearby and a very good sound system; so everyone could share in this special part of history. The NMAI is the only honey limestone building in the city and looks best at dawn and dusk when the light saturates the colors of the stone.
I am full blooded Cherokee and I did not vote for Barac Obama. 90% of us Native Americans voted for him. I think 90% voted for him because he is a man of color. I looked passed that and voted for Mccain because of values and political views.
