  • @OddManOut13Yeah, I know what you mean. A lot of guys feel like they have to learn it because it's the done thing at many Uni courses. It's very rare, if not impossible, for someone to get good at a music style they don't enjoy listening to or playing. It has nothing to do with accomplishment, as you said, that's just ignorant fools that say that stuff. Pretend to like it to be cool.People don't have to 'get' jazz to enjoy or play it. It's music, what's to 'get'? You either like it or you don't.

  • @bteniswood Well you got the TRY part accurate, but I never felt i NEEDED to really. It's fine.

  • @OddManOut13 I've always been a bit baffled by this point of view...Why do you feel you NEED to like it? It's like any other music. If you are not attracted to it, don't listen or learn it. A lot of guys feel like they need to TRY and like jazz and learn it. The only reason I ever learned was because I liked before I started playing it. I wouldn't bother with something I really didn't like and can't begin to understand why someone would TRY to like something they simply don't. Play music u enjoy

  • @blight4hire Fair enough, I hear what you are saying. I know that the drummin techniques would be beneficial, I just have a hard time listening to jazz as a whole.

  • @OddManOut13 if you're not attracted to it then don't learn it. But yes in my own books i will not be an accomplished musician unless i get some mastery of jazz and latin drumming. i'm already good at rock, death metal, black metal . Just learn jazz so you are able to do more things on the drum set

  • ive tried again and again to listen to jazz, especially the drumming, I just don't understand the attraction. Please understand I say this having full understanding of the musicianship involved. I play drums very effectively, and I can hold my own on guitar as well. I also grow tired of jazz musicians basically saying I am not an accomplished enough musician to "get it". Cmon guys! Seriously, Jazz is just too "Meh" for me. I gave it the college try....

  • thank you very much for this! very good work, and your website has a lot of usefull information! keep it up man!
