This is a heavier sounding song back when, in fat most of Fabian's songs would be classed as heavy metal had they of had that category of music back in the Doowop era. I have a few favorites by this legend & this hit posted here isn't amoungst them but I do feel free to comment nevertheless. My favorites are Turn Me Loose, Hound Dog Man, Tongue Tied & Friendly World. I do tune them in from time to time but not often but then I never tune this number in...same goes for "Mighty Cold". Thx

millions made and he could sing a note. what looks will do to woman

The 50s Milli Vanilli! :-)
Just kidding. There is a major difference, after all, between studio-enhancement of vocals and an entirely different person singing them. Things turned out okay for Fabian, though, regardless of the scandal. He acted in some movies and never ended up broke or a junkie.

His first, and probably his best. He always had great production, but was severely limited by his vocal range

Oh! This one was a great hit in Germany for TED HEROLD I think in 1959 as well, so apparently the German version was released shortly after the English original. But I think without the Internet and all that, I would never have found out who sang the original! AFAIR it was only known to real connoisseurs.

@veefriends Some time back in the 80s he tried to make a come-back. What happened was an arrest for spousal abuse and the publicity around it stopped that real fast.
Thanks - I hadn't heard of HMV. Yes, all early U.S. Fabian records were Chancellor - out of, I believe, Philadelphia. "String Along" was backed by "About This Thing Called Love," also on Chancellor, but darker label. (Was that the flip in the UK as well?) What I still like about "I'm a Man" is the instrumentation. It's as good as anything on any Presley record. Most of the Avalon recordings were also well-made. However studio-enhanced, "I'm a Man" holds up quite strongly after 50 years.

It was the same flip side over here as well,I was never a Rock N Roll fan but certain records catch the ear and this is one of them.

"HMV" label? My Mom had Chancellor 45 lying around (pink label) with "Hypnotized" on the back. Also "String Along" on another Chancellor.
