This is Tank eating a worm that I found in the garden. He was pretty full after he ate this one. I wish I had of gotton the look on his face when he saw it in the tank for the first time. Yum! (I just found out that worms from the garden aren't a good idea to feed a turtle...so please read the comments to find out why)

  • i got a turtle from my gramparents yard!

    i need some some advise!

  • What kind of turtle do you have?

  • pf wow. I always give almost al my animals worms from the garden and they never died by eating worms.

  • I did too..I would read into I guess. I don't really know anything about it at all. If I knew that it was safe I would still do it but there are many variables to think about and the store is across the road from me. I would never want to be the cause of my animals getting sick. Sometimes you just have to take others advice.

  • its best not to feed a work from your garden because it may contain parasites and other diseases. Ill recemend buying worms from a local pet store

  • that is a good point. I never really thought about that. We mostly feed him pellets because they are always available but we do give him the odd worm. I will make sure that I don't do that agian. Poor Tank :(

  • Right, so a worm can be infected with diseases, pesticides, yet be immune to it by living perfectly normal, but readily pass it to the turtle that eats it and greatly harm it by doing so. I use to take my RES turtle in the yard when it rained all the time just to see a mini version of real life Jurassic Park. Don't listen to these 20 X daily hand sanitizing freaks, its definitely a pet store gimmick.

  • i havei red eared he has no name can you help?

  • i wonder if the no-garden-worms argument is really just a pet store gimmick to get us to buy their worms. . . i can't imagine that all store bought worms are perfectly safe from pesticides, parasites, etc. either
