Top 15 Most Haunting Game Soundtracks

My personal list of the most haunting soundtracks from video games.
These are just my opinion and I'd love to hear your own too.
I'm hoping this list encourages you to look up these talented composers, some who have been unjustly forgotten.

15: Kyrandia: Caverns Theme
This is one the earliest 'scary' tracks I remember. Memorable and atmospheric.

14: Killer7: Funhouse
The most unnerving track in a game full of them. Its so off kilter its disturbing.

13: Max Payne 2: Theme
Best rendition of the theme to date. Melancholy, desperate and moving.

12: Alone in the Dark 5: Shto Li
Despite being orchestrated its still jarring and urgent and dark.

11: Resident Evil: Outbreak
Many emotions are in this one theme: despair, hope, and menace.

10: Bioshock: Welcome to Rapture
There's a sinister majesty and madness in the introduction theme.

9: Evil Twin: La Proue
For me this was highly memorable: winding and with a profound sadness.

8: Amnesia: The Back Hall
Ironically the one safe room has the most disturbing soundtrack.

7: Zork Nemesis: Asylum
Still makes me uneasy. Its music that sounds like ambiance but has structure.

6: Shivers: Main Hall
Simple. Memorable. Amazingly creepy even today I believe.

5: The Path: Forest Theme
The ghostly voices are bad enough, but the sing song music makes it fearful.

4: Madness Returns: Dollhouse
For some reason this is one of the scariest pieces of music I've ever heard.

3: Scratches: R's Theme
Music boxes are scary. Music boxes running down and distorting are worse.

2: Medievil: Credit's Theme
This is one of the finest game compositions for a scary game ever.

1: Silent Hill 2: Promise (Reprise)
This IS the finest scary soundtrack ever. It practically defines the genre.

Never seen or heard of the game: Evil Twin. what's the game about?

Its a French import that was barely released at all, but it had the intriguing plot of an orphan discovering that their imaginary escapist world is actually real and in danger from a newly emerged dark tower that has brought an army of evil beasts with it. The gameplay was ancient, but the graphics had a charming and creepy Tim Burton feel to them and it was definitely creative if not polished.

The soundtrack remains amazing IMHO :)

I REALLY considered a Quake or Quake 2 track but I had so many others it was painful trimming it to fifteen. Maybe some time I'll just do a showcase of my favorite music, although that could take awhile XD

ahh, madness returns, always has a wonderful soundtrack, my favorite is the actual fight song (i actually would take forever to fight just to listen to it XD) that and the main theme, music boxes always spike the terror level on all accounts so honestly you can't go wrong there XD i really would like to play Silent Hill but alas, my family is too stuborn to let me buy it~

Best feel-safe music in a horror game?

RESIDENT EVIL 2 SAVEROOM THEME 100%!

I do agree with the SH2 music though.

I was going to complain about the lack of Myst songs on here, but then I realized that none of the Myst soundtracks were particularly haunting. Memorable and beautiful, certainly, but none of them were really haunting enough to belong on a Top 15 list.

I'm surprised that the music from The 7th Guest wasn't in there, because that music was pretty damn creepy too.
