When Pres. George W. Bush and Sen. Barack Obama BOTH agreed on unconstitutional amendments to the foreign intelligence surveillance act (FISA) last week, it raised questions about Obama's consistency on civil liberties and about how to best fight this assault on the Fourth Amendment and the right to privacy. I try to answer these questions with some clips from a Barack Obama news conference and from spokespeople for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

You can see the full July 1, 2008, Barack Obama news conference from which I took a short clip for my video at http://cbs2chicago.com/video/?id=46212@wbbm.dayport.com

You can see ACLU Legislative Counsel Michelle Richardson's full June 21, 2008, appearance on C-SPAN's Washington Journal at http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&...

You can see more about the ACLU's fight against the FISA Amendments Act (including the ACLU video from which I took a short clip) at http://www.aclu.org/safefree/nsaspying/faachallenge.html

And, you can see Sen. Barack Obama's full February 16, 2006, statement on the USA PATRIOT Act Reauthorization at http://tinyurl.com/ObamaOnPatriot2/

  • lol listen to this fucking guy.

"Those who would give up their essential liberties to achieve a measure of security deserve neither." -Benjamin Franklin

  • Give me liberty, or give me death. Try and take my liberty, and I will fucking kill you. And when the people fear their government, you have tyranny. When the government fears its people, you have liberty. Fuck Obama, Bush, Clinton, and the rest all the way back to our last great President JFK. Long live our magnificent Constitution.

  • Men....i am loving the freedom of this country more and more every day!

  • I think that anyone hacking into anothers account to gather private information about them for whatever reason should be charged with federal crimes. At the same time I ask... Why is it the law emforcement at every level can spy on american citizens and gather personal information about them, use it though the media to dehumanize and demoralize and not be held accountable for this? This makes me very angry!!!!!!!!

  • I love how when he was running (and was obviously going to get elected), people declared what an awesome speaker he was. Trying to point out that it's been a hundred years since a president wrote his own speeches was useless.

Just listen to Obama talking about 1:00 into it. That's your brilliant Jesus. We surely elect the best of us.

  • @TheMango121 I'm sick of arguing with idiots............

  • @tj526

LOL you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning then getting killed by a Muslim terrorist.

Get your head out of your ass. It has nothing to do with "protecting you from terrorists"

  • @tj526 If you're going to live life that way, you might as well find a good, steep cliff and just get it over with. It would be better for us too as your vote wouldn't be used to deny everybody's liberty.

  • I dont care if the CIA hears my phone conversations. I've got nothing to hide. do you? If it's to keep me safe from potential terrorists operating within my country, im for it.
