@italy404 Of course any respectable ballet teacher has a duty to point out mistakes made during class and even after a performance. Ballet is all about the joy of expression.

@BalletWatcher That's interesting...I think it's fair to give notes when something goes wrong..or reminders so that the next performance goes wonderfully...but I don't usually criticize the performance. The dancers, especially young ones, should enjoy the performance experience. If they have been well rehearsed, then that kind of criticism shouldn't be necessary at this point, whatever major issues or problemsthere may be should be well done and understood in the rehearsal process.

I agree.

you're supposed to have most of your weight in your toes, not your heel
-
Maybe jeanvod means that they are rolling their feet in (which they are), and not distributing the weight evenly over the whole foot when they come down through demi-pointe.....?
-
Are we watching the same vid? They are putting weight on their feet!
Some of them don't have the best feet for pointwork, but they're working on that! Most of them are doing fine for an amateur class. You can't expect them all to have a perfect physique...
-
I hope that none of them actually dance on their pointes yet because ate the bar none or putting the weight on the entire foot... they must have some really bad cramps in their toes... what is the teacher doing???
-
no, they're right. don't boo the truth.
God I've had it with people who think they know everything about ballet and criticize their way through youtube videos. I can see why you would do that with young girls who try pointe without a teacher, but these students are clearly in a ballet class! So please consider the fact that they are LEARNING and that they have a teacher to tell them how much progress they are making.
So please, put your energy in your very own ballet class or go save the world on a more usefull level.

It's fair to criticize dancers during a performance, not when they're practicing in a studio.
