I converted a small, black and white tv, into a makeshift oscilloscope, which i will detail on my site at http://ratmandu.net soon. This was hooked up to my iPod, through a cheap amplifier pulled from an old powered PC speaker set. Later on i will rotate the coils so it is horizontal instead of vertical. Hope you enjoy.

  • It looks MUCH better in person by the way. The video mode sucks on this camera. Sorry about that.

  • btw, that domain of yours you were gonna post details on your makeshift oscilloscope to, is no longer active and thus i can't see what you did :)

  • I think the reason it is not rounded is the fact that it is not a pure wave due to the overlapping tones.

  • What the scope does is run the electron beam across the TV (in this case, vertically) and the sound distorts it perpendicular to the scan direction (horizontally, in this case). If you stopped the scan from moving, it would stay in place, and simply move back and forth (or up and down, in a horizontal display). But because it scans from top to bottom here (I believe), silence is just the electron scan itself, with no deflection to either direction, resulting in a flat vertical beam.

  • it's not the same kiddo, get a grip.

  • so how exactly did you do it cause i want to do that with the small black and white tv that i have

  • Bloodhound gang - The bad touch

  • it's like a snake dancing on it xD.

  • That song's beat/chord progression reminds me of the MOD music on the Commodore Amiga.

  • technically i believe an oscilloscope with silence is a dot not a line as yours and makes a more circular patern, i think yours is a waveform display but i may be mistaken. more ore less they are the same thing anyway and its no less impressive.
