A 1st try at using a lathe to wind a Helmholtz coil. The hands on the left belong to my PDE professor from my undergraduate days.

  • Helmholtz Coil? doesn't look like one... Don't you mean Tesla Coil? Helmholtz coils aren't for making "sparks".

  • Yes it was used to make sparks for a jacobs ladder.

  • huh? dude, I did the same thing, just get the guy whos lining up the wire with his thumb to put on a glove, set the lathe to its slowest setting, and turn it on, instead of hand turning the beast.
