Can you use steam distilled water or what kind do you suggest?
Thanks

I do not believe in sterilizing anything. When you introduce 'good bacteria' to your environment, the 'bad bacteria' will leave by itself. Boiling water is simply energy waste. So stay cool, healthy, wealthy and happy! :-) Thank you for the easy step-by-step video!

i looooooooooooooove the fact that you are showing us what to do in such a FAAAAAST manner! Man if i had found you before it would not have taken me twooooooo long yrs to change my life!!!!

@servantrose Oh yes, and I actually have two types here. I was using plain white sugar and it did okay but no real 'action' or growth. I then realized it must be temperature, - it was. It likes temps above 72... I found out by accident when we had a warm spell and the kitchen got a bit warmer. It started bubbling and moving a lot.

@backyardsounds did you get your kefir to grow? I'll be starting today!

how to get water grain kefir ?

Really informative, thanks for the video. I should be receiving my water kefir grains in the next few days, but wanted to ask a question about the water. Can I used filtered tap water that is filtered through a filter jug? It doesn't remove fluoride as far as I know. Perhaps I could boil it to remove anything the filter doesn't remove? I'm just trying to get out of having to buy water. Love milk kefir, so this is the next step for me. Thanks.
Do you have to use fruit to keep them happy? I have turbinado sugar, molasses, and boiled eggshells ready to go when my shipment of water kefir gets here.

@Sereena111 @MephistophelesMyLord Fluoride in the water will damage & eventually kill water kefir grains (and other living organisms like you) so choose your water filter carefully. (Unfortunately boiling doesn't remove fluoride.) Dried fruit will have to be added at least sometimes or you will notice your grains will stop growing & are likely to shrink. It's like trying to live without a full spectrum of nutrients: health will deteriorate. It's not necessary for every single brew, though :)

Very nice video! thank you for sharing! I just got my water kefir grains today and am really excited! I do have a question though! Later on, when I will have enough grains, can i convert half of them to milk kefir so that I will have both, or is it not possible? Thank you in advance!!!

@mekafthos Thank you and congrats on the new grains! Water kefir and milk kefir are two different bacteria+yeast cultures so you can't convert one type to the other. You'll have to get some separate milk kefir grains to brew both. Enjoy yer drink and thanks for watching :)

@fabianabarreto1 Trader Joe's does not carry any water kefir, but Whole Foods does. The price per bottle may be about the same as buying the water kefir crystals and supplies to make your own unlimited supply.
