  • I wanna be a midwife. :o

8 years of schooling, though... I don't think I could do it. :/

I'm only in high school and can't even fathom 4 years of college, nonetheless 8. -_-

  • @DrSandmann Actually, you have to complete 4 years of nursing school. And also you have to be an apprentice after you complete that and 4 years of midwifery school. Lets see: 4+4+1=4+4+1

Wow. That looks exactly the same to me.

  • @DrSandmann Why are you so cranky?

  • @BackwardsHatToucan

    Oh really?

OBs go through 4 years of medical school hell followed by 4 years of a grueling OBGYN residency, and perhaps even a year or two of specialty fellowship. Certified nurse midwives spend 2 years in nursing school and 2 to 3 years in a midwifery program.

And you expect us to believe that the only difference between the two is the ability to perform surgery?

    Nice try.

  • doula

  • @thedongerknowsall midwives can diagnose and treat every complication that a doctor can. the only thing they can't do is perform c-sections. they're just as experienced as an OB. a doctor in the room doesn't guarantee that you're safe either, maternal death rates in OB care are just as high (if not higher, since they perform more surgeries)

  • VERY BABY!!!

  • I'm interested in becoming a CPM. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is required and what kind of schooling is done in becoming that?

    Thank you!

    God Bless!

  • are you an idiot

  • so what the hell do you do when there are complications? call a dr? why the hell are they not at the dr in the first place? so what the hell do they actually do? really. tell you your doing a good job until a problem occurs? wtf. that makes about as much sense as one of those dog whisperers. they have a word for these people already. its called a nanny. gimmick.
