Its one of the most popular questions. If you wanted me to give everyone a short summary of why you do NOT have abs its because you don`t have a muscular core that would be visible and you are NOT lean enough for your abs to show if you had them.

The solution is to tackle EACH of those solutions separately. And for the record, before I get into specifics about abs, compound movements like front squats, chin-ups, deadlifts are some of the best ab builders. Especially if you learn to engage your core.

To find out what you need to do, lets take a look at some photos.

STAGE 1: NO ABS
In exhibit A You do not have abdominal muscles. This means that no matter how lean you get, you will not have abs...because there is NOTHING UNDERNEATH THERE!

Solution: Build some abdominals both through your normal training and direct core work. This will take you approximately six months to one year of consistent work. When your abs are thick, you have moved on to stage 2

STAGE 2: DECENT ABS
Exhibit B You have basic abs but not HUGE abs. You won`t win any awards. You need to build a thicker core through direct abdominal work. For the record at this stage, I have not done any direct abdominal work, those moderate abs are from compound movements. Moving forward into 2012, one of my goals will be developing my abs more. You also need to lean out a bit after you have a thicker core.

STAGE 2B: ABS Covered By Fat
This is actually quite rare in trainees who ask me the question. But for a small percentage of people, you have a ripped core, but you just need to lose all the flubber.

Solution: Stop eating so poorly and clean up your diet. Through hard work and at least 6-12 weeks, your abs will become visible.

  • Hey man, just stumbled into ur videos today, ur awesome. I just started back at the gym 5 days ago and I'm goin HAM! I'd like to know the most overall efficient fat burning workouts that I can do to lose fat quickly. Cardio is already my #1, so whats #2 and #3?

  • @badass147 Well your name is Badass, I do have a fat loss program essentially called that. Honestly brother, heavy lifting and intense cardiovascular work with a smart diet is the way to go!

  • @xxfuturerevealedxx Define being healthy. I'd say no to machines they suck, I have plenty of a free routines on here that rock my man

  • Maybe a video on spot reduction, what do you think. I know it is supposed to be a myth but I am against most traditional standpoints. I am going to do an experiment to test it.

  • @superdadtv You actually can spot reduce to some degree and will make a vid on it. But its not how people think, its all hormone related, a vid within a month will come out :)

    By healthy I mean;

    I do not want to be skinny fat; So I want to build muscle and lose my belly fat and man boobs (not that I have gyno...I just got puffy nips lol)

    So would your free routines be enough-->routines that are intense interval workouts with short rest periods?

    Also, I want you to know my diet is healthy,,,I do not eat junk food at all, no pop etc.

    So you do not have to worry about my diet.
