Date Rape PSA

This is a PSA we created for our Public Health class on the dangers of date rape drugs. The public health problem we are addressing is high incidence date rape on college campuses. Specifically we are addressing usage of date rape drugs, such as rohypnol, often utilized in the college bar scene and how to detect them with a date rape test kit.

We are targeting all college age women, 21-25 years old. These women are more likely to frequent the college social scene and are at higher risk for becoming victims of date rape. Ward et al. states that incidence of sexual victimization can range from 15%-78%. Although 15% is a low estimate, it is a high enough to make date rape an important social problem on college campuses. The most relevant risk factor we will be addressing in regards to date rape is alcohol usage. Often incidences of date rape involve alcohol in some way. Another risk factor is location or venue. Bars, clubs, and parties are social situations in which women can become victims of rape by an acquaintance or stranger. Our PSA focuses mainly on these two factors.
