This film, fourth in the James Bond series starring Sean Connery, was plagued by all kinds of production problems. From lawsuits over who should get writing credit to near-fatal shark attacks on the set and finally to Tom Jones almost fainting in the recording booth when singing the title song's final notes.
Tom had this to say about the incident, "I closed my eyes and I held the note for so long when I opened my eyes the room was spinning." Actually Tom was fortunate to sing the song at all since he and the song were a last minute replacement for another song entitled, "Mr. Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang" sung first by Shirley Bassey and then re-recorded by Dionne Warwick, neither of which were used in the film. "Thunderball" by Tom Jones peaked at #25 in January of 1966.

  • Sir Tom Jones is the male equivalent to Dame Shirley Bassey...

  • It's reported that Tom feinted in the recording booth holding the last note. Good for you Tom, going for it with that much energy.

  • Another great Bond song!

  • Best Bond Theme Ever

  • Bond girls you gotta love them

  • Such a powerful voice. What a great singer. I saw him live 10 years apart and he is still amazing. He drove the audience ( the women especially ) wild.

  • what a voice.. just graet

  • watch for my song on johndenverSINGS ! u wouldnt believe it!

  • @brickpaverr feigning is pretending to do something, actually, If you're going to be a grammar nazi, understand the grammar first ;)

  • @binxiboy111 LOLMEGALOLZ. no. ffycin Pen pidyn .

  • I doubt if he fainted. He has sung this song hundreds of times with the same last note and and does it with no problem. Amazing voice. never to be duplicated.

  • It's spelt fainted, NOT feinted. Feinting is when you pretend to do something. Surely Mr Bond was not pretending.?
