I usually put torches on the walls on one side (left or right) while exploring, so I can find my way back by following the torches on the other side, so e.g. left when you enter, then turn around - your torches are now on your right and you can get out...

@Generikb Never said it wasn't, but it would be even more fun to walk up to an auto-mellon farm and fill your inventory just by jumping in.
