Some great scenes of the fall of the Berlin Wall dominos on the night of November 9, 2009.
The clip shows the toppling of the domino section between Potsdam Square and the Brandenburg Gate in almost its entirety. The stoppage at the end is intentionally done - to remind us this there are still walls on this planet that have to be toppled.
In this sequence, EU Commission President José manuel Barroso starts the toppling of this dominos section on Potsdam Square. The toppling here last about 70 seconds, covering a distance of about 1/3 mile = 500 meters.
Great clip, I think you'll love it, too. I was there and it was fantastic, According to media reports, 300,000 people had shown up in the Berlin-Mitte area around the Brandenburg Gate to witness this event. Many of them were guests and tourists - I think I was one of the few born&bred Berliners there. But anyhow, according to a famous speech given by former US President John F. Kennedy in Berlin back in 1963, all free women and men are Berliners, wherever they may reside ...

  • In German, "Die Mauer ist gefallen" would be absolutely correct. "Der Wallen ist gefallen" is kind of a nice playing with words, since "der Wall" is a correct German word. With a similar, but not exactly the same meaning as the meaning of the English word "the wall".

But all that doesn't matter much when compared to the only thing of importance. That the f... wall is history - in Berlin, at least.

Btw, I think the first person being interviewed is British and the second one Danish.

  • Now I'm be Dutch (like the white haired gentleman that was being interviewed), and German is not my first language, but how about: "Die Mauer ist gefallen"?

Nice, though. I remember 20 years ago, how the year 1989 was so completely gob-smacking.

I still haven't visited Berlin, though; I've been told it's terrific.

  • dude wayy offffff!!!! es ist: der mauer ist fällen!!!!!!!!!
