@Killerwolfd777 I don't think they try to be anyone but themselves. They are the real deal, like the Avett Brothers and Old Crow. They don't give a shit about trying to be someone else. That's what is so great about them.

For those who are interested here is a little history of this song. It first appeared on a 2006 bootleg in a version similar to The Duke & The King's (minus the Marvin Gaye bridge). This second version appeared in 2007 and judging from this video they were going to include it on the self-titled album. The song was eventually released in it's original form, with an added bridge, on The Duke & The King's debut album. Simone states in the 2006 bootleg that the song is about Harriet Tubman.

I took these guys to the cornbury music fest, and take them back to heathrow l8r that night, or should i say morning!! they were the most wonderfull "group" i ever transported. I was sitting in on both sessions, the evening was the better one as the sun was setting. A one off experience i will never forget.
It is bands like the Felice Brother, The Avett Brothers, The White Buffalo, The Builders and the Butchers, The Devil Makes Three and many other true musicians that are bringing credibility back to traditional American music. It is so great to hear people making real, heartfelt music again.

I like how people ridicule them for sounding like Dylan. God forbid some new musicians actually emulate someone good...or maybe another pop-punk hip hop band would be more refreshing. it must be terrible to be compared to one of the most prolific and influential musicians of all time.
But then again, look at top 40 radio. Taste in music is not our strong point. I bet Flo Rida would sound awesome unplugged in a field.
