  • All birds carry diseases yet we don't walk around with umbrellas all the time. Advice? Don't eat their feces. other than that we are washable.

Nature didn't intend for them to be at telegraph hill. They are native to ecuador and peru, so trying to keep them 'natural' is a dollar short and a day late. Maybe people should stop importing wild and exotic pets to stop this sort of thing from happening at all.

  • Au, so sweet.

  • There used to be parrots similar to this in the U.S., at least as far North as Ohio. People killed them off on purpose. These little guys aren't much different than those kind, so a pretty harmless feral population that will probably do fine just about anywhere you see simliar kinds in the U.S.

  • @stephanieangeles1 - They are not a protected species so you could, but you will most likely have behavior problems from a wild bird. It's best to get a bird as a baby so that it will be use to you.

  • can you buy or trap a bird in telegraph hill

  • Those are such cute birds!

  • Most birds that most American consider "native" aren't native at all. The common house sparrow, starling and pigeon are native to europe. American killed off the passenger pigeon and carolina parakeet.

  • Importation of these birds has been outlawed for many years. These conures are decendants of birds that were imported many years ago. Except those few who were originally imported, these decendants were all born here and are now native to California.

  • May 22nd the S.F. Board voted 10-1 to ban feeding these parrots in any park in S.F. The birds will be healthier as they will now forage for their food the way nature intended and the many problems that were inherent in the feedings will come to an end or at least be minimized.

The supervisors are to be commended for their wisdom in giving the parrots the right to be wild birds and not pets.

  • These birds carry diseases that can be transfered to humans, mainly worms in their feces and these people do not have their heads covered. Let the S.F. Board of Supervisors know you support the proposal to ban these feeding.
