Update: It's back at Groove Subaru (on Broadway, in Denver) again.
Toxic smoke started billowing out from the vents of our 2005 Subaru Outback XT. Brought it to Groove Subaru on Broadway in Denver to stop the smoking, to the tune of $1,600. It was still smoking when I picked it up. They explained that they stopped the leaks that caused the billowing smoke and that a few hours of driving would burn off the excess. I think they should have cleaned off the waste and disposed of it properly, rather than asking me to burn it off, into our Colorado air, and into my family's lungs.
What do you think?
what did the dealer do, replace the CV axles on both sides, after the passenger side tore the rubber boot? if thats what they did, out of common courtesy they should have cleaned the grease off of the catalytic converter. when the rubber boot tore, the grease sprayed onto the exhaust, and started smoking off. The dealer probably cleaned it up with a rag, and any residual oils would burn off over the course of a week or so.

Take it back in and ask if they checked the valve cover gasket. My brother had a similar problem with his 2005 Outback XT LTD 5 speed. I think the repair was about $300 dollars. I hope this info can help you. He has had other issues but the smoking stopped after the repair.
