This hand-cranked Corona mill can now be easily driven a drill. I created a compound gear reduction gear set out of bicycle chains and a disassembled 8 speed megaglide cassette. The reduction ratio is 9.68:1. At first I had a lot of trouble keeping the chains on the gears, so I added tensioner/guide pulleys, and so far that has solved the problem. In the future I would like to add a dedicated motor mounted to the frame, but I have not yet found a suitable motor. At least now with the gear reduction, a smaller motor will work well.

  • haha, You are very smart, thank you for sharing your idea.

  • @YH144000VH Thanks. It was a fun project. It could be better, but it is very functional in this form.

  • great setup! what size sprockets did yo use and what was your input rpm?

  • @pbatigne1 I don't remember exactly, but the small inpur gear would be either an 11 or 12 tooth gear, and the largest one is most likely either 32 or 34 tooth. I used the rest of the bicycle cassette gears in between to increase the reduction. Just remember to always drive the small gear.

  • Man maybe you should use a bicycle to drive it. Then you can say that you are exercising when you are brewing. Hey honey I think I will exercise for awhile.
