  • I went to THS from the time it opened (coming from Santley Street School for hooligans) until I left in 1958. I lived at 146 Leander Road in those days, and had lived there from 1945 at the age of 2, until we moved to Claverdale Road at the age of 19. I used to 'Loc' it on Friday nights taking care not to get caught up in the regular chair throwing from the balcony. I worked at the ABC Streatham as a Projectionist for a number of years throughout the 1960's.

  • I lived in Greenleaf close, 1955 to 68, went to brockwell park infants, Tulse Hill comprehensive early 60's, the record shop in Atlantic rd Brixton...ram jam club and Streatham Locarno.....then left for a better life and found it....grenville

  • Thank you for posting this vid, i never thought I would see Tulse hill comp again, its all a modern housing development now. Back in the late 1950s I was in 3a, I forget what house I was in ! i hated it so much i bunked off most of the time. The best thing about the school was the bus ride out to Rose hill to play football, and the jam sandwiches afterwards.

  • I just found a diary from 1875 written by a young boy at Tulse Hill School in Brixton, but everything I've found online says that the school was founded in the 1950s. Can one of you alums clear this up for me? I'm in the US so I don't know anything about the area or its history. Thanks!

  • used to bunk off and go to brokewell park, then down to the brixton arcade grab the latest reggae pre-release then back to tules hill school get our mark at registration and off we would go to croydon for some nicking, well ! it beat climbing up those bloody stairs to lessons, i always remember the local shops at dinner time half a loaf and chips, beat the sluge they served at school, and a couple of them giant penny humbugs from the sweetshop always went down a treat after.
