Before you release or share a file created in Microsoft Word 2010, you may want to check for issues related to privacy and security. Word files can contain names, file paths, earlier versions of a document, hidden text and comments that can prove embarassing or damaging if viewed by third parties.

You can check for such issues by clicking on the File Tab ... Info ... Check for Issues (in the Prepare for Sharing section) ... Inspect Document.

Inspect Document checks for the following:

Comments, Revisions, Versions and Annotations
Document Properties and Personal Information
Custom XML Data
Headers, Footers, and Watermarks
Invisible Content
Hidden Text
