my uncle was fishing a popper when a goose that was taking off the water got it in the feather. The bird got away and gave us back the $8.99 lure....

Same thing happened to me, we were fishing the ocean side of the north jetty of tillamook at barview. A whole storm of those exact guys were fishing the area. My first cast with a 5 oz pyramid with a whole sand shrimp came up with a pretty weird fight with a swimming bird. The best thing to do is get something to cover their eyes. They get completely calm after getting their eyes covered. I learned the pecky part of their scrawking and came out of the battle with some blood.
