The most controversial finish of all time. Year 2001, Grand Prix of Austria, A1 circuit. Rubens is on the lead , with Michael right behind him. On last lap he recives order from Jean Todt to let Michael pass him, that he would pick up 4 points more in fight for championchip.
In 2002 they did it AGAIN !!!

Michael has never joined a dominant team. He helped make them dominant. Benetton could win a race here or there but the Benetton-Ford was really no match for a McLaren-Honda or a Williams-Renault. When he joined Ferrari they had won 2 races between 1991 & 1995. He won 3 in 1996 alone.

He would have stayed at Williams for as long as they had Renault power. For 1993 Senna only signed to race the first race in South Africa so he could assess whether the customer Ford-powered MP4/8 was worth his effort. Prior to that he had test-driven Emerson Fittipaldi's Penske IndyCar and would have gone there if the McLaren sucked bad enough & due to Prost blocking him at Williams.

And he did block Derek Warwick from driving for Lotus-Renault & instead he got Satoru Nakajima.

you are talking absolute shit, Senna was the best driver on the grid so you become courted by the team with the best car... he was faster than most even in a Lotus and he gave 5 years to Mclaren so you cant judge his loyalty, who knows how long he'd have been in Williams

  • disgusting fat cheat

As you put it, ''David really made life hard for Hakkinen on several occasions'' is proof enough that there comes a time when a team has to choose a #1 driver. On both of those occasions David could have taken the both of them out, resulting in no victory for McLaren and losing the title to Irvine.

This happened to Williams in '86. They let Mansell & Piquet fight to the final round and Prost in his McLaren mugged the pair of them at the final race and took the championship.

  • @Er1c1990

Okay, how about Europe 1997, final round of the season? After the Schumacher-Villeneuve incident, Coulthard & Hakkinen had been 2nd and 3rd. It was apparent that Villeneuve's car was damaged as the McLarens were realing him in. McLaren contacted Williams and asked Williams if Villenueve would surrender his position and not fight. They agreed, not wanting to risk further contact and losing the title. Once Villeneuve-Williams agreed, Coulthard was told to let Hakkinen through.

  • @thestaggie You can't compare this to Australia 1998. Häkkinen clearly was the stronger driver (he had pole and the fastest lap). Someone tapped with the radio and Mika got the order to enter the pits a 2nd time. While he cruised through the pitlane with the speed-limiter, Coulthard passed him. It was only fair that McLaren corrected their mistake and reinstated P1. And David really made life hard for Häkkinen on several occasions (see Austria 1999 or Spa 1999).
