  • When they do many of these jazz funerals in NOLA, they are memorials, many without the casket. Much like the memorial "walk downs" they do down Allen Street in Tombstone Arizona. It's a tribute to the deceased to celebrate their life which New Orleans does in the best way.

  • You are right about that, kkate! :-)

  • I was there and my video did not come out as well as I wanted either, but I think most people appreciate sharing this moment. I was indeed HOT that morning. Thank you for your video, it is a wonderful tribute Captain Phil.

  • Thanks zander. I learned a lot from watching your video time and time again. You really got a lot of good shots. What we saw on the show just now was so limited, of neccesity of course, but ya know what? That makes your video the 'go to' place to see what really happened and to see the guys celebrating Phil's Going Away Party :-) Peggy

  • By 06:13, it starts to look like Chuck Barris on the Gong Show.

  • @cappyandpegody Yea I was watching an interview with Josh when he was in Chicago, he said that they had a funeral in Washington where they buried his ashes and then the rest would be spread on the Bering Sea. On the show when they played part of his funeral, you see two gas tanks. I think its a lovely thing New Orleans did for Phil and his family. Great footage, thank you for sharing it with everyone.

  • how did he die?

  • @Degenerate724 What we were told is that half of Phils ashes were in this gas tank and will be scattered at sea later when the Cornelia Marie heads out for King crabs. The other half of his ashes were interred in the family plot. This info we obtained from the fan message board.

  • ok, but was his ashes in that,? or his remains wasnt there at all?

  • True RHDrama. I had to laugh when Keith (if I heard correct) told Phil's boys not to bother trying to fish around the ...."butt" place because it was too hard to set the pots, etc. I told Cappy that Keith would probably setting his pots on the "butt" place, first chance he got. I know a lot of people like Keith, but...well, it may have been as he said when he matched Jonathan's "pot for pot"; it might have been an accident. I dunno, I liked Phil an whole lot more.
