It is the Politburo [the top decision-making body within the central committee]. Whom in 1991 wasn't ready to change. All they wanted was to hang on to power and preserve the old system. As far as the "Dry Law goes, it was -- economically -- a serious blow to the state budget as sales migrated to the Black Market economy.

Due to poor health, the 79 year old, former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev, did pull out of a meeting of Nobel Peace Prize winners that took place, Nov 10, 2010, in Japan. Perhaps paying a visit to "The Gorbachev Foundation" (gorby.ru/en/default.asp) would be in order!

Gorbachev was good only for USA and Western Europe but He was not prisedent for Russian. His politic was tragic for whole Russian people...Please see where he maked his 80 party......He is hero for G B and USA

Gorbachev is the greatest leader of the world in our times. Leaders should dare to bring freedom and peace to the country and the world and he did exactly that. Look at the other leaders of the world, they are doing exactly opposite, you will see dictactors in middle-east and war mongers in west, but Gorbachev is the man who brought peace for the entire world people. He stands in the league of Martin Luther King.I will forever admire this leader..
