A kinda different subject for ya. I wanted to get into this this subject for a while now. Growing up in the New York Tri-State area, I have heard these rumers, rumors of giant cat sized rats, both by news stories and by friends who claim to have seen them.
So I ask my friends and subs who live in New York City, or any other urban area around the world for that matter, put in your 2 cents on this subject.

  • by the way wiseassgamer there is a big difference between a rat and a possum if you see a possum from the front the face and snout are much different and a possum could not be mistaken for a rat....

  • I don't know if you read the annitation, but when I saw the possum, it was just before 6:00 in the morning so it was still dark out, so I could see how they could be mistaken.

  • I have seen one, and it WAS the size of a cat! Scared the shit out of me!

  • i love that show

  • there r some i saw 1 when i was 7 i live in Washington DC close to NY

  • I just took a look at that video, and might I say, what an adorable little creature, very docile, not like the rats here in America who do tend to show aggression.

  • i used to live in yonkers years ago and i have seen rats that large along the saw mill river. not that often mind you but yes they are out there...

  • I'd be less skeptical that they saw a giant rodent but more skeptical that is was in fact the a rat.. there are allot of related genus that are pretty huge. The Genus rattus though seems to be comprised of fairly small creatures (smaller than a cat anyway). having said that google "Giant rat found in 'lost volcano'" to see a true rat close to the size of a house cat.

  • again not part of the genus rattus but probably mistaken for a rat and it does live in America (both Americas that is):

    Myocastor coypus

I think this is the classic "River Rat" people speak of. It is also adorable and bigger than a typical cat.
