You need to use more neutrals (at least 4 or 5). Basically the voltage between any two washers should be no more than 2.2 volts. Add more neutrals and you will manage heat better.

The discoloring of every other plates is from the electrical Polarity. While the positives are bright, the negative looks dark. It is normal.
How much electrolyte are you using? Electrolyte will cause an escalator of heat and current draw. The longer it produces HHO the hottor the cell gets and it draws more current. Try reducing or eliminating your electrolyte content.
I run my generators now with just filtered water, not distilled. Low current draw and about the same output=less heat

@ HHO connection thanks will try that...but when i used a smaller version of this design it worked well just didn't produce as much... used same config only larger washers for the pos and neutral plates. think burning was from loose wires on the positive side contacting the neutrals fixed that not on the the heating problem.

using about an actual teaspoon of Baking soda as my electrolyte. but I am using a feeder bottle that adds water tot the cell container and acts as a bubbler and a flash back protector there might be additional soda in the feeder bottle. i was using it to feed the dry cell as well.

@KiloEcho5, Thanks for the tip. it was pulling 1.25 amps on a 12 volt car battery. only one side of the plates burned. not top vs. bottom but left vs, right side of the cell. top and bottom of the three middle plates (negative only) on one side seemed to burn. But the bolt running along the center (negative) did not heat...I will try the water thing and see if that solves the problem....Drycells R still in production.
