Staff Sgt. Heath Calhoun lost his legs above the knees on November 7, 2003. He spent 2.5 years struggling to learn how to use prosthetics but never was able to get a good fit or training. In 2006, he attended the ACA Conference and came to the Bilateral Above Knee Workshop presented by Hanger Prosthetics and saw what was possible with the right approach, sockets and training. He decided to give it a try and July 5, 2006 was the last day he has used a wheelchair, now completely independent using bilateral above knee prosthetics and Hanger ComfortFlex Sockets. This is his story.
