In a speech on the House floor this morning, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) directly took on a report in the New York Times that the President plans to discuss how the Democrats have rescued the economy in his primetime address tonight. Citing the highest unemployment rate in 26 years and families and small businesses who are struggling across the country, Boehner took aim at the Democrats job-killing policies that will make matters worse, such as their government takeover of health care and Speaker Pelosis national energy tax, as well as the trillion-dollar stimulus that isnt working. Full transcript of Boehners remarks follow:

Madam Speaker, American families and small businesses are hurting. The economy has been hurting, but this morning in previewing the Presidents speech tonight, our former colleague, the Presidents Chief of Staff, said this: [W]e rescued the economy.

Now, Im sure that the 9.5 percent unemployment rate that we have in our country today and from most economic experts on its way up dont believe that weve rescued the economy. The 11.1 percent unemployment rate that we have in Ohio, Im sure those people are looking up today wondering, wait a minute, the President is going to say we rescued the economy? I dont think so.

Not only has the stimulus not worked and the economy not been rescued, the President continues to promote policies that will create more unemployment in America. The national energy tax that went through this House last month will cause millions of Americans to lose their jobs over the next 10 years, at 2.5 million per year. And were debating the health care plan, the government takeover of health care, which according to the Presidents council of economic advisors model will cost five million more Americans their jobs.

I dont believe that the economy has been rescued. I yield back.

  • two and a half million per year. Riiiight.

  • I don't know what is worse the lies that ol' Johnny is spewing or the fact that he believe them to be true, when all the facts and experts point that things are improving. Even when you GOP/media nuts are doing everything you can to destroy our country at all levels, Ohio is sinking because the GOP took over the states and are driving them into the ground, just look at Florida and NJ, both corrupt governors looking to cash in and sell out to they're corporate masters....

  • Congress needs to stop paying unemployment to these job dodgers and buy them one way plane tickets out of the country before we go bankrupt!

I, along with several of my republican colleagues are currently working on a plan to end unemployment permanently by attaching a provision to the next budget bill that will end unemployment for good!

  • 9.5% unemployment! What the hell is he talking about. More like 19.5% when it's not the manipulated government labor statistics we're talking about.

  • obama in 2012

  • John Boehner the deficit maker!

  • Big business is sitting on more cash than ever. It's now up to them, not the government, to start creating jobs.

  • Republicans need to stop taking shit out of context, man.
