I have a question about it.
Did you use automatic settings or any other, like fireworks or low light ?

I used standard settings on the Sony HDR-XR500V (not in Easy mode, nor in any special Scene mode).
The only thing I did was lock the focus in to "Infinite", I think. I *may* have locked exposure too but I don't recall.

Comparing the video I shot this year on the Sony HDR-500V to the fireworks footage last year on the Sony HDR-CX7, there's no contest between which camera records better low light footage.
