Harvey and Mary Biel: Here's Looking Back at You!

This slide show was made by my brother, Charles Biel, after my Grandfather passed away. The video stars Harvey and Mary Biel of Harmony and Granger, Minnesota. Grandma Mary died in June, 2011. I thought this was a great record to make available to our cousins, their children and friends of the Biel/Pickett families.
Even for those not related to us, my brother did a great job of storytelling, using old photos and his love of cars. These times and people have gone on by (along with the cars...) but we carry them in our hearts.
Harvey and Mary were poor farmers in Minnesota, suffering great poverty after the Depression. They raised six children, Stan, Clifford (my Dad), Marian, Julia, Cynthia, and Louie. They lived simply, overcoming the odds, and had a practical and pure faith in God. They overcame the prejudices of their times and always had an open door for any of us, whether we walked the narrow path or scrambled to find a way. We honor them and their memory.
I would characterize our Biel side as creative, stubborn and ready for a hearty laugh. Rooted in a love for the land and nature, only one cousin remains in the farming industry. The rest of us have pursued a variety of urban and sometimes, urbane, careers. Many of us have innate talent in the arts, especially visual art, functional crafts, and several are quite the musicians, instrumental and vocal.
We will all agree that these two are sorely missed!
