On August 12, J. Larry Jameson, the newly inaugurated executive vice president of the University for the Health System and dean of the Perelman School of Medicine, helped launch the medical school careers of 170 first-year students as they donned their first white coats and marked the beginning of their journey into the art and science of healing.

During the ceremony, each student was presented with a white clinician's' coat, a vivid symbol of their entry into the medical profession. The students also received another esteemed symbol of the medical profession—their first stethoscopes.

At the ceremony's conclusion, the entire class recited the Hippocratic Oath, one of the oldest pledges in history, calling upon them to treat the ill to the best of their ability, to preserve a patient's privacy, and to teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation.
