Marine Air-Ground Task Force Demonstration
2009 MCAS Miramar Airshow
MCAS Miramar
Miramar, California
Sunday October 4, 2009
IN THIS VIDEO, usually the first part of this video shows the fixed-wing assets of the MAGTF departing MCAS Miramar. These aircraft departed before the Golden Knights took the stage and officially opened the show. You will get to see refueling demonstrations by the two KC-130J Hercules, as they refuel the CH-53Es and the Hornets and Harriers. Fixed wing assets in the MAGTF include two KC-130J Hercules, two F/A-18C Hornets, one F/A-18D Hornet, and two AV-8B Harriers. Rotary winged assets in the MAGTF include three CH-53E Super Stallions, three CH-46E Sea Knights, two UH-1N Hueys, and two AH-1W Super Cobras.
MCAS Miramar-based assets in the MAGTF include the Hercs, Hornets, Super Stallions, and Sea Knights. The Hueys and Super Cobras were supplied from nearby Camp Pendleton and the Harriers came from MCAS Yuma, Arizona. In addition, ground assets include several dozen Marines as well as two M1A1 Abrams tanks and two Light Armored Vehicles. Pyrotechnics are provided by the MCAS Miramar EOD Team.
NOW, because of the low clouds on Sunday, the aforementioned Hornets, Harriers, and Hercules could not take part in this demonstration. Instead, only one F/A-18C Hornet from VMFA-323 represented all of the fixed-wing assets in this demo.
I apologize for any bad color and/or vertical lines or American flag intrusion that may or may not be in this video. Unfortunately there were American flags that got in the way of the video during some critical parts of the videos and I have had some camera trouble throughout the weekend.
If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .
