2:08- explosion
A few of my friends and I were studying abroad in in Morelia and were about 2 meters away from where the grenade exploded in downtown Morelia. I was filming the festivities when it went off and therefor captured a small amount of it on camera. A moment after the explosion, the entire crowd starts screaming. It was at this time we were all aware of the severity of what just happened. As the massive crowd became fluid, we were all pushed. In the madness of it all, I must have forgotten to turn off my camera. You can hear our dialogue. It goes something like this...
1:09- El Grito begins
2:08- Grenade explodes behind me and we were hit with bomb debris
2:29-"Oh my God! What was that?, Andrea what was that?"
"A firecracker"
"Oh, ok, but it wasn't like a bomb or anything"
2:47- the crowd screams and chaos erupts.
As the crowd moved, my friends and I were being pushed apart and we thought we might lose each other.
3:10 -"Oh my God, lets just go. Everybody meet at... "
"Guys if we lose each other where are we meeting?"
3:17- "I had a feeling something bad was gonna happen"
Closer to the end of the video, we had gotten away from the core area of the explosion and didn't know if it was just a small scale accident, or if we were over-reacting, which is why we ask each other if we are the only one's running. It isn't until a minute later, the crowd parts for the paramedics and we are able to see the damage and the blood, .. etc. and we kept running. It actually got worse after I stopped recording when we were face-to-face with the paramedics carrying bloody people on stretchers- women and children. And the one thing that haunts me to this day is right after I stopped recording, there was someone yelling "Hay muertos! Hay Muertos!" (there are dead people!)
Morelia is a beautiful city in a beautiful country despite this tragic event. I was fortunate enough to find my fiance in Morelia and am exceptionally fortunate to be moving there to live soon. Even though I was in very close proximity to a very unfortunate event, I know that Morelia is an amazing city.
If you're going to give me bad ratings for poor video quality or something like that, don't bother, because being there really sucked. Badly. And I am dealing with PTSD and with the entire thing on a daily basis. Also, please refrain from leaving racist or rude comments. Something really awful happened to really good people, the only people who should be judged are the people responsible.
y Lo peor es que en el video se escuchan a Turistas, Que pensarán ahora de Michoacan!
